What you need
Before dictating, enable TypeRoam as an Android keyboard. Voice typing also requires a Google sign-in, active TypeRoam Pro access, microphone permission, and an internet connection. The current voice service is designed for English speech.
Start dictating in any app
- Open the Android app where you want the text to appear.
- Tap the exact text field where you want to insert your words.
- Tap the microphone on the TypeRoam keyboard.
- If Android asks, allow TypeRoam to use the microphone.
- Speak naturally at a steady pace.
- Tap again to finish recording.
- Wait briefly while the recording is transcribed. TypeRoam inserts the completed text into the active field.
How to get better voice-typing results
- Keep the phone nearby. A normal speaking distance usually produces clearer audio than placing the phone across a room.
- Reduce competing sound. Music, other speakers, wind, and road noise can hide words.
- Use complete phrases. Natural sentence rhythm provides more context than isolated words.
- Say names carefully. Uncommon names, product names, and abbreviations may need manual correction.
- Review important text. Always check addresses, dates, numbers, legal terms, and messages where a small error matters.
If the transcript is correct but the wording needs work, use a voice command to revise it instead of recording the entire passage again.
What gets processed
When you deliberately start voice typing, TypeRoam sends the recording through its backend to the configured speech-processing provider. The completed transcript is returned to the keyboard. TypeRoam does not intentionally store voice audio in its application database after the request completes, although processing providers may handle request data under their own service terms. Read the current Privacy Policy before dictating sensitive information.
Voice typing troubleshooting
The microphone opens but no text appears
Confirm that recording has been stopped, then allow a moment for upload and transcription. Check the internet connection, temporarily disable a VPN if it is blocking the service, and try a short clear sentence.
TypeRoam asks you to sign in or subscribe
Voice typing is an online Pro feature. Open TypeRoam settings, confirm the correct Google account, and check the subscription status in Account.
The transcript is inaccurate
Move away from background noise, speak closer to the phone, and try a shorter recording. You can then correct the result manually or with a voice command.
